National Inventory Week

I've arbitrarily decided that this week will be National Inventory week.

Why?

Because I know my inventory is sadly in need of some housekeeping. I also know that many other people have inventories that make the current state of mine seem like the Pinnacle of Order.

So each day this week, try and put aside an hour for inventory sorting.

*Discover the joy of subfolders.
*Be descriptive in your names for them
*Be impressed that you can rename those textures to something other than "Metal 0274"
*Let go of the multiple "objects" you hung on to from your first build aaaaages ago
*Sort through your freebies: do you really need 7 jester hats?

Do your bit to make Organised Chaos that little bit more organised.

You are going to be the death of me I swear my love! How can I be the Queen of Chaos if I have my inventory perfectly sorted?? ;-D

I believe it would take far more than a week before your inventory would be even close to "Perfectly sorted"

:-P

Make my 12,000+ item inventory such that I can find something in no time?? This is utter madness, I say! MADNESS!

Oh dear, I suppose my purple cube end table and noobwear will HAVE to go!

An excellent idea, especially with the winter holidays coming up.

In my case, my own 'zero-th' rezday on November 4th will find out how many of my own clothes I get to keep during the transfer (answer: very few), but at least my inventory will be extremely tidy.

Pfffft.

Pikers, all of you.

41,265 items, y'all, and that is *after* three weeks of culling, dropping down from the staggering 48K+ at one point!

I fear my inventory. It takes ten minutes to load in. It makes my avatar hard to move (I'm not kidding--encumbrance, it seems, really *is* a factor here!) and increases my chance of redmapping.

And the bulk of it. Textures and notecards....

I so am going to be brutal with myself in November. Cull MUCH MUCH MUCH more.

41K??? Wow I think last I heard yours was 26K. Mine's only a moderate 16K

Mind you I bet more than half of the landmarks in your inventory are out of date. I'm tempted to do a large scale dump on mine and start fresh.

I feel better about my 13K or so. Part of my trouble is I make a copy of things as I make that thing, so my folders oft become jammed with 30-40 versions of things before the more or less final product. But then I'm afraid to delete...

And yes, let us not forgot those catchy texture names like "eb709", but also the ones that just seemed to make sense at the time. "Red green woolly antoinette" is actually in my folder right now. It seems to be a patterned wallpaper.

I took inventory awhile back. I have although I wear one quite consistantly I came up with 200 hair... thats more hair than I have clothing. And by percentage my 15,000 items is made up of 7k worth of textures.

It took me ten days to sort my texture folder. Its not perfect mind you but I know where most of it is, and where most of it isn't. Ten days... TEN DAYS of nothing but camping chairs, at least I made 300L from it.

As for anything that is labeled 'object' it's trash now. I know I made some amazing half builds and just picked them up without labeling them... but by the gods I had a hundred things simply labeled object and I wasnt about to go to a sandbox and rezz each one out. Screw unlabeled houses, I can make better anyways.

*goes off to textures r us to see what else Miss Gallanio is selling*
