4 years ago I started the first of a regular gig called Breakfast in Babbage In honor of this, Gabriel Riel went behind the scenes to talk with me about the history of the show and what has inspired this wonderful wackiness.

The Grand Tour

With all the heated debate and hurt feelings over the Open Space controversy, Miss Fogwoman Gray organised The Grand Tour; a multi-sim dance that ran for most of the weekend and covered sims in Colonia Nova, New Toulouse, Orcadia, Victoriana, Neufriedstadt, Winterfell, Caledon Carntaigh, New Babbage, Steeltopia, Caledon Argylle, Al Andalus, Isles of Fatima, Giggleford, Caledon Stormhold, Wunderbar, Uhr, Antiquity and Steelhead.

Sadly I was unable to attend much of the dances but there are a few places that I must get out and visit before Christmas. Because many of these places will cease to exist once the new OS changes come into effect.

Two of these sims that will be consolidating are Carntaigh and Argylle. Thus this event was something of a farewell for these sims. Argylle has only been around some 6 months but Carntaigh came into existence 2 years ago, just after I arrived in Caledon. Both places are special to me and will be missed. I'll see what new memories shall come with Caledon Rothesay.

Jump, Jive and Wail

My dear cousin the Duchess of Loch Avie organised a 1940s theme dance for Thursday night. The wonderful setting created by Iason Hassanov, was complimented by the tunes provided by Otenth Pederborn of Radio Riel.

It was a nice change to pop out and be sociable. If only time would let me do it more often.

The Caledon-Wintefell Ball

Saturday afternoon was the first joint ball between Caledon and the "Victorian Gothic" themed sims of Winterfell. Hosted by Her Grace of Carntaigh, Gabrielle Riel, and the Senechal of Winterfell, Serra Anansi.

I wasn't able to make it to the start of the ball, originally being held in Winterfell Keep. It seems the combination of high prim jewellery, high prim gowns, AOs, HUDs and a high number of AVs in the sim was too much for Winterfell to bear and it fell over.

The reassembled dancers opted for the recently formed sim that was the cause of the celebrations, Caledon Cape Wrath. And with a quick scattering of dance balls and the tuning of the parcels to the right music, the Ball was under way again.

Sadly time zones and RL commitments prevented me from staying for much more than an hour, but it was nice to see the coming together of the two communities. I look forward to seeing what it brings.

The Duchies anniversary

Last Friday saw the first anniversary of the arrival of the original four Duchies in Caledon. Lionsgate, Carntaigh, Primverness and Loch Avie were the first void sims in Caledon and also the first sims to be held in trust by an individual rather than a group of people.

To celebrate the event Her Grace of Primverness hosted a Renaissance Ball.

Sadly the Duchess of Loch Avie was unable to join in the celebrations due to RL commitments, however we certainly had a fabulous evening all the same.

May they rule for a further year in peace.

Spooktacular Spooktacular!

The Marchioness of East Speirling, and Baron Bardhaven put together an impressive night for a Hallowe'en flavoured party.

Wulfenbach's Caledon Embassy opening

Saturday was a very long night with the opening of the Wulfenbach Consulate in Caledon Kittiwickshire.

For those unfamiliar with Baron Wulfenbach I would direct you to one of the most amazing comic creations I have ever had the privilege to read, Girl Genius. Other denizens of Girl Genius have turned up in Caledon in the past, but the Baron has made an outpost in Caledon.

A selection of tunes was provided by Frau Lowey (who has an unhealthy obsession with Thomas Dolby it must be said) and the Duchess of Carntaigh and a small furry Emperor coordinated the DJing duties for the night.

AT 8 hours I think this is possibly the longest Radio Riel gig ever undertaken.

Has it been a year already?




Saturday was the 1st year anniversary since my arrival in Second Life. As was pointed out I am one of the few (possibly one of only two) who had heard about Caledon before I was part of SL and came in specifically FOR Caledon, rather than someone who came to SL and was lucky enough to discover Caledon afterwards.

In that time I have met some wonderful people, many of whom I am proud to call my friends.

And parties are special with friends!


A pavilion set up by my favourite Brother-in-Law, decorated by my dear wife and music provided by my dear friend (and distant cousin) The Duchess of Carntaigh.


Dancing over what became nicknamed the "Drool Pool" after a song by Robbie Williams followed by one from Kylie Minogue.


Mr. Hassanov had to run off so we sent out a relative to help him find his way back.

My sincere thanks to all those who stopped by to wish me well, and for the gifts, and for helping to make my first year in Caledon a most memorable one. Here's hoping there will be many more.

New Boston dance

Saturday night I went along to the formal ball being held at the New Boston sim. It was my first visit and I was lucky enough to be part of the tour offered by Mayor Dejavu. The sim is named for the English town of Boston rather than the Massachusetts city, though it still seems to have more in common with it's American namesake than it's British one.

The formal Black & White Ball was the second time that Radio Riel had played for an event in New Boston. I wasn't able to attend the previous event but the people seem very friendly.

Had an excellent time at the ball. Afterwards Lady Gustafson and myself retired to Loch Avie for a little weapons sparring. After donning armour we traded blows for a while. I think I'm improving. I managed to actually win one of the five rounds! There may be hope for me yet.

With some Supa Sekret Skilz and a little bit of luck, last night a surprise Rez Day party was organised for my lovely Christine McAllister, Lady Primbroke.

As opposed to last weekend where nearly everything was happening, this Saturday there was only the one and that had finished by 4.

So with some help from Her Grace and Lady Gustafson, people were organised and a little shindig was sprung.

I had fun going through my selection of photos (and the contributions of others), sorting out the ones fit for public consumption, and putting them up for all to see.

And of course once you start playing Doctorin the TARDIS you just KNOW the Daleks will turn up.

All in all a successful night. Christine got a little suspicious by the time it was getting close, because I was busy with making her cake and was being very cagey about it. But her brother knows how to keep her distracted :-)
