Exploring Insilico

I've known about the existence of Insilico for years. In fact I'm sure I have visited on occasion. But on those times I did, it was a cursory stop over or a visit for a shop. I had never realised it was so BIG!

Insilico is four sims with multiple levels. Think a Second Life version of Bladerunner and you'd be off to a good start. But in addition to the city levels, there's the post-apocalyptic wasteland and the Martian mining colony. The streets are full of little nooks and crannies and it really is worth the time to explore. More pics to come!

SL Sci Fi Convention 2015

Science Fiction sims from around SL are once again showing their wares to entice new members, or maybe remind old ones, that they exist.

Some are just static displays, others like the USS Solstice (a Trek RP sim) have a nice little interactive adventure.

Come and explore. Who knows where you may end up?

Slime City rises again!

Waaaaaaay back in 2007 I stumbled across Slime Square, a Ghostbusters RP sim. Like so many things on SL it eventually disappeared.

However it now seems that one of the sim's original creators has paired with some new blood and they're creating a new version of Slime Square.

New York Public Library

Shhhhhh!

Oh yes they'll be totally discrete

Ray's Occult Books makes a return

Sculpt Ectomobile. Looks nice.

You KNOW what happens when Dickless shuts off the containment unit

Phillies Cafe from Hopper's famous Nighthawks

Zuuuuuuuuuuul!

Spook Central

The Gatekeeper and the Keymater

The Traveller Has Come!

Gozer the Destructor!

While I don't have time to join in the sim for full time RP it's a great build with lots of things to find while you explore. And, as a nice change, you don't get bombarded by a million "Thou Shalt Not" pop ups when you enter the sim. If you're a fan of the movies or even if you just appreciate a great build, drop by for a look!

Washtown passes from the 'Verse

While I was never a regular of any of the Browncoats RP sims, I did drop by from time to time and see what was being built. Sad news has reached me of the reactor explosion which means Washtown is now uninhabitable.

It's always sad to see a long standing sim close, but as has been often said, RP sims are often the most vulnerable.

Exploring SF on the grid: Jupiter 2

This post almost borders on advertising more than an exploration but bear with me.

Most people will be familiar with the 60s TV series Lost In Space, which effectively became a space version of the Swiss Family Robinson. Sadly the initial villain of the piece, Dr. Smith, was turned into a parody of itself becoming more camp than a Boyscout Jamboree.

Jupiter 2 landed on the planet Preplanus.

Piloting and Life Support stations

Computers and the elevator to the lower deck

Lower Deck and The Robot.

A cute touch with some vintage reading material (the centre of plagiarism claims over who "created" Lost In Space).

The Jupiter 2 is a lovely build, if a little static. You can buy you own copy of the ship if you want to set up and RP sim as well as copies of the outfits from the series. (Mmmmm velour).

Full Scale Enterprise

In my recent explorations of Star Trek sims on the grid (which have inspired a semi-sekret Project) I stumbled across this:

To give you an idea of scale, the little black mark towards the edge of the saucer section is me .

Malic is heading up a group aiming to build a full scale recreation of the movie USS Enterprise. Ultimately, with the use of rezzers, you will be able to configure the interior to your preference, whether Motion Picture, Wrath of Khan, or The Undiscovered Country.

If you want to pop by for a look yourself drop on over:

Exploring SF on the grid: Starbase 11

I used to be a big Star Trek fan. I still am in many respects though Deep Space 9 was where I started losing interest. However I'm enough of a fan to recognise the amount of work that has gone into building Starbase 11.

Starbase 11

Starbase 11 from the Original series episode "Court Martial" (retouched from the rerelease DVD collection)

Star Trek has been pretty big on SL. Though sims have come and gone over the years you can always track down a Trek RP sim somewhere.

View from the orbiting shuttle dock.

Transporter room (with the NOMAD probe from the episode "The Changeling")

Living quarters on Starbase 11 are finely detailed

The local flora has been recreated to match.

Even down to getting the food from the original series correct.

There's even a Starship Enterprise for you to explore.

The famous bridge of the starship

Scotty would be proud.

It's an impressive build and certainly helps for setting the scene for any Trek based role-playing. Even if you're not a hard core Trek fan the sim is worth exploring. The build is top notch. Kudos to all the people who have helped to put it together.

Hill Valley 2015

Back in 2008 someone made an excellent go of recreating Back to the Future's Hill Valley from 1955.

This time round Latok Neumann has recreated Hill Valley in its 2015 incarnation.

Thankfully the Jaws franchise stopped after the fourth movie

Possibly this little gem was found via behind the scenes photos, but I love the name.

It's still being built but the brief chat I had with Miss Neumann said it was just taking forever so she opened it now. Drop by for a look. It's an amazing build.
